Today’s blog is inspired by my very own Father! My mother and my father are 2 of the most influential people in my life. Wisdom is an understatement, and I am so very thankful/blessed to still have them in my life. I guess you can say food and healthy eating are in my blood. My parents are “true” bonefied gardeners. They take such pride in what they do, as well as the outcome of what it will bring. One of my mothers’ favorite scriptures is found in Corinthians 10:31. It states, ” So whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God!” Aahhhhh… Such wonderful words.
One of my favorite sciptures can be found in Romans 12:1. It reads, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your resonable service.”
God wants us to honor our bodies both spiritually and naturally. So what does that mean? It simply means to treat your temple right! What you put into your body plays a HUGE role in how you look, feel, and even your emotions. Your body can’t function properly if you’re not fueling it with the proper foods. WHOLE FOODS! And you can’t serve God at your best if you’re not feeling your best! Amen? Amen. Now, let’s talk about these beautiful watermelons and some of its nutritional values/benefits.
Watermelons are actually a nutrient dense food. It provides high levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, & just a small number of calories. Watermelons are very popular in the summer, and for good reason. Their refreshing quality and sweet taste help combat the heat, & they provide a guilt-free dessert! Winning!! Also, over 90% of a watermelon is water. Watermelons is thought to aid conditions including asthma, cancer, & inflammation. Not only that, my father can pretty much consume 1/2 of a large watermelon or more, on a hot summer day. Why? It keeps him hydrated and energized. My father always has a plan, just as your father in heaven has a plan for you & your life. 3 John 1:2 “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in good health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
So, the next time you make a trip to your local market, backyard, barbecue, picnic, or party, opt for a watermelon! You’re sure to stay hydrated, energized, satisfied, & full. What are some of your favorite summer fruits or vegetables? I would love to know!!
- Watermelons are BOTH a fruit and a vegetable! It is a fruit because it grows from a seed, it has a sweet flavor & refreshing qualities.
- It is a vegetable because it is harvested and cleared from the field like other vegetables, & because it is a member of the same family as the cucumbers, pumpkin, and squash.
Until next time…
