Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are another staple item that we keep in our home. And it gets even sweeter when they come straight from your garden. Sweet potatoes are AMAZING in every way. They can be used in various ways for various dishes. Sweet potatoes can be eaten raw as well. Yep, they’re just that hefty in it’s nutritional value. Sweet potatoes are also a root vegetable. Not only are they starchy, sweet, nutritious, large, & edible, they taste really good! You can eat them baked, raw, grilled, chopped, in salads, boiled, as a stand alone, & one of my favorites are “sweet potatoes fries!” Oh yeah! These babies are righteous! Ok, now that I’ve ranted about how great these potatoes are & how amazing they taste, let’s talk health. Just how much are sweet potatoes beneficial to you? I’m glad you asked! Let’s read.

Nutritional Benefits of Sweet Potatoes:

  1. Sweet potatoes are packed with potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, & vitamin B6 which supports energy.
  2.  Sweet potatoes are an excellent gluten-free option for those who are looking to replace carbohydrates in their diet.
  3.  Sweet potatoes support weight loss, healthy skin, anti-cancer, & cholesterol levels.
  4.  Sweet potatoes have been used as a valuable healing plant in South African folk medicine for over 5,000 years. (what?) Yes, studies suggest they can be used to treat diabetes, inflammatory conditions, & a valuable raw material to be used in medicines.
  5.  Sweet potatoes have an unusually high resource of vitamin A. In fact, no other food on the planet contains more vitamin A than sweet potatoes!
